Aerial Photos of Tucson and the neighborhood of El Con Mall

Aerial views, from the Pima Association of Governments Regional Data Center (PAG-RDC): 1998 digital orthophotos, grey-scale and color, 450x450 pixels, unenhanced. Maximum Resolution is ca. 1ft/pixel greyscale, 3ft/pixel color. All images have a scale bar.

The following is a sampling from the PAG-RDC, focused for images of high resolution on a neighborhood bordering El Con Mall, El Encanto Estates. For sets II to V, images with the same identifying number are at similar resolution: 0 is highest, 1ft/pixel. Images with identifier 3 or greater show part or all of El Con Mall. Images of set I are all at the same resolution, corresponding to identifier 1 of sets II to V.

A 250 KByte image (the size of most of those below) takes about a minute to download at 56 kbps; with a modem connection you may want only to sample the sampling, if even that.

[NOTE: Anyone can download these images (from http://www.pagnet.org/); putting them here is only to save time and trouble.]

For a quick tour:

Detailed listings:

  1. Set of 9 images in a 3x3 grid, greyscale, 450x450 pixels, about 2ft/pixel resolution, sun from the South, all images about 240 KBytes. They cover the neighborhood El Encanto Estates with image 1 at lower left (SW corner) and image 9 at upper right (NE corner).
    1. image 1, SW corner;
    2. image 2, S middle;
    3. image 3, SE corner;
    4. image 4, W central;
    5. image 5, center;
    6. image 6, E central;
    7. image 7, NW corner;
    8. image 8, N middle;
    9. image 9, NE corner;

  2. Set of 11 images, color, 450x450 pixels, zooming out from a 3ft/pixel limit-resolution view to a a county-wide view. A map of streets, roads, and parcel lines is overlaid. This map is interesting at low resolution (images 6-11), through showing the extent of Tucson (the overlay obscures the photographic image at low resolution); it is helpful at high resolution through guiding the eye (images 1-4). Property lines can be seen in images 1 and 2.
    1. image 1, 179 KBytes; central two rings of properties; resolution poor;
    2. image 2, 210 KBytes; most of El Encanto (5th St., B'way properties off edge);
    3. image 3, 223 KBytes; all of El Encanto, most of El Con;
    4. image 4, 230 KBytes; includes most of Randolph Park;
    5. image 5, 228 KBytes; includes most of UofA;
    6. image 6, 210 KBytes; all of central Tucson;
    7. image 7, 192 KBytes;
    8. image 8, 127 KBytes;
    9. image 9, 49 KBytes; nice image of Tucson density of streets
    10. image 10, 21 KBytes;
    11. image 11, 12 KBytes;

  3. Set of color images matching the above, but without the overlay; color images are effective displays for lower resolutions (images 4-8); image sizes are similar to those above.

  4. Set of greyscale images matching the above, without the overlay; the 1ft/pixel resolution (image 0) is greater than obtains for the color images; the greyscale images are effective at higher resolutions (images 0-4); images are 200-250 KBytes.

  5. Set of greyscale images matching the above, but with the overlay; parcel (property) lines are clear for images 0-3; only major streets are mapped for images 4-7; images are 200-250 KBytes.
